Doom Eternal

Nobody from founders and great developers left in ID Software. Company of pioneers of modern shooters in the last decade of the twentieth century simply a name of studio today or a damned soul, which John Carmack sold to devious Bethesda Softworks and fated by that on infinite damnation of great shooters of 90s. Well, that’s Carmack! Collapse happened before of that. Gone of the most creative men influenced on studio and brought to using of familiar titles. Doom 3 doesn’t have difference from B-shooters of that time and excelled due of past merits. It served as trademark since that time. Doom Eternal was obvious disaster from the first gameplay demonstration. I never had a wish to play in it and especially after Doom 64 I was thinking on boycotting of Bethesda’s games and will do after this. Circumstances brought to play.

Doom Eternal looks as technically unfinished project came from the first part of nineties and adapted to modern technologies. A game shames for absence of physics laws, elaborated damage systems, protagonist’s legs and moments as inability to kill enemy behind big cage and lava can burn when don’t touch it. Wrong to think about searching of realism and any accuracy on questions as “I couldn’t miss”. Rockets from launcher are the most slowest thing in Doom Eternal if don’t mention zombies. This game I wanted to play in speedrun mode, but developers made it impossible, because movement to the next room opens when everybody are killed. Gameplay associates with playing alone in maps of some kind of arena mode in multiplayer game. Battles with monsters are drought spring, because artificial intelligence is imitation. Walkthrough follows through ordinary hard metal. I was unbelievable glad to crash of engine at first time. I was hoping that is definitely. I couldn’t play long in tasteless game. After spent of high quantity of every time of shell I must come to blinking enemy for finish him through “E” and “C” letters on keyboard or he will revive. Developers pushes to press the button, because it more effective to simple shooting and close contact gets more health packs and using of “C” also allows bullets for guns, which always finish and with a chainsaw must look for easy target if have only one petrol can. Animation tortured me in fast terms. After arcade massacre is easy mistake entrance with exit in one room.
The story is a modern interpretation of ReadMe file. Rare videos doesn’t explain on characters and plot environment. Dialogs are for filling of empty blanks. Mostly videos devoted to walking of silent of bulk size main character, who presumably was in fashion business before. Some of information I found in uninteresting voice records in one level and no else.
Developers gives nothing for series and haven’t more of original games. Almost all known monsters, where began as solo main antagonists in the end of episodes in Doom had a downslide to part of hordes of enemies in the current game. Standoffs with lifebar bosses in Doom Eternal developed in arcade mode and, as in Doom 2, their first lone appearance will become frequent killing.
Following to overall standards, ID Software included in the game RPG elements (with invisibly existence of lifebars.), where I didn’t take attention and often choice was automatically, because needles and no good perks. Inclusion of out of place acrobatics in wall climbing, jumping and accelerated in air movement is additional to game’s curses.

I had somewhere two hours for complete of Doom Eternal, but I sent this game to hell. Playthrough had similar effect, which I’ve got after finishing of Ulysses reading. Sharply enhances pleasure to good writing, what is same relates to games.

Doom 64

Twenty-three years later on personal computer appeared Nintendo 64’s exclusive Doom 64, which would be obsolete if had release then in 1997 against great advanced shooters Shadow Warrior, Blood and Quake II and would lost to previous year Quake and Duke Nukem 3D, but a game gets another look in today arrival in digital stores.

Nightdive Studios ported Doom 64 for personal computer with modern adaptation in control (just not enough buttons F5 and F9 for total comfort.) and created six needless episodes. The game was published by Bethesda Softworks, which belongs to Zenimax Media, who holds rights, when ID Software, the studio created Doom, presented in current staff. No mention to Midway Games in introduction screen and in long credits, which is impossible to roll in manual. In hundreds names willn’t find Doom 64 creators and mostly from original team of ID Software. Bethesda earned a new amoral definition – disregard behavior and no esteem to true developers.

I willn’t review fan episodes by Nightdive and take observe on initial content. Doom 64 developed on same id Tech 1 by Midway under supervising of ID Software is firmly follows to original games and counts as continuation, but the story rarely for take a serious attention as it was then. Add-on for first-person shooter in 90s usually was developing hired a secondary studio team what doesn’t relates to artistic Midway. In quality of directing and level design of Doom 64 I saw excellence of fantasy, where supremacy on original games in absence of boredom in key searching, but gameplay is faulty in not to be a tiresome. I never had hype to Doom, but good to the first game. Walkthrough of Doom 64 I made vigor by listening “Acoustica” of Scorpions on backstage. Killing of Cyberdemon under Still Loving You is more prefer. The game mostly deaf and haven’t meaningful melodies except grunting death sounds of demon was reminding a snoring of my cat.
In Doom 64 I saw what I never like in 90s shooters – appearances of bosses as average enemies, what demolish their uniqueness. I was surprised in duo quantity of Barons of Hell with which I had a heat confrontation. I was hiding in huge square columns from merciless rockets and look out for shoot to Cyberdemon. Shots from BFG-9000 finally finished unstoppable Spiderdemon. Frequently meeting all of them in Doom II was a killer of charm and would made gameplay more suffering if I put a goal to destroy everybody. Doom 64 still was displeasuring me in more easily terminate them as minions, which became annihilation and level rising makes worst due to quantity expand. To another dislike is about one moment in the stage. In one level you must get in trap for further walkthrough, where will catch arrows in awaiting of release. I have little pretenses in logic of riddles, where in few of them depends on hero’s movement. He runs effective in left and right sides, when gets slowly in straight. Some obstacle can cross in speeding up, which not always can be successful.
One weapon and one monster are all from unique in rich in design and paints the game: non-special, but effective, a laser weapon and final Doom 64’s boss. I can’t count as new a monster, who has another skin color and throws plasmaballs instead fireballs.

Doom 64 doesn’t needs to be on PC. This is another additional level pack, which one more time reminds on games in past.

A saxophonist, anti-communists and comedy in read books.

EUSSR: The Soviet roots of European Integration by Vladimir Bukovskiy and Pavel Stroilov.
Through retrieved documents from Gorbachyov Foundation EUSSR: The Soviet roots of European Integration tells about obvious pure evil communists and crimes of meaningful left-wing people of the West in time of creation what became the European Union now, where the Soviets planned to conquer a dominant position. The book gives a little look inside of hidden reality of the world.

Letters of a Russian Traveler by Vladimir Bukovskiy.
A country is one of things you haven’t in possibility to choose at born. I prefer lot of places to happened, but with experience I’ve got. In despotic states can see things, which willn’t allow you to think that in everybody can find kind, for example. However, I saw many people, which despite on witnessed evil they still naïve. Alexander Solzhenitsyn described in Gulag Archipelago about kind of prisoned men, who were founding excuse on their conviction as mistake and imagined that their case is revising now. I know people in the West, who never saw evil, but have commonsense reasoning about it. In Letters of a Russian Traveler Vladimir Bukovskiy writes about it, First Cold War political situation of last decades on that time, contrast of inner life between the East and the West and feelings of emigration from first years to further in modern look and from the person who left the Soviets. It’s amusing to look on all of that from his view.
I always with fascinate read everything from Bukovskiy – the man with unusual life story and the man who had the right to say many things on which not everybody has allowance. He is of my heroes! Had agrees and disagrees with the author, but with full pleasure I’ve read Letters of a Russian Traveler.

Lubyanka Criminal Group by Alexander Litvinenko.
This book gets to see the answer on why 90s in Russia were as it known. The second and the last masterpiece from Russian secret police agent Alexander Litvinenko. He tells about years of work on KGB in interview format. Litvinenko participated in cases connected with militaries, politicians, KGB agents and other high-ranking men. He gives own view on notable crimes, which some of them still stay undisclosed (for example, murder of journalist Vladislav List’ev.), but could be solved if not constant meddling from somebody. His versions expressed in job experience, knowledge facts and sometimes evidences prone to truth for me.

The Wrong Box by Robert Louis Stevenson and Lloyd Osbourne.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s books can evoke adventure wish if read Treasure Island and Kidnapped. His sentences can create mystery atmosphere as in Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. He could cause laugh, what I had in The Wrong Box. Book’s humor isn’t for modern time, but it doesn’t relate to me, who was impressing in words building. I read a spectacular story, which often gives twists and where is impossible to make suggestions on movement of any character’s plot. Stevenson was multitalented in writing, who wasn’t turned his ability in quantity as did Henry Rider Haggard by whom I adore Allan Quatermain and that’s all. At least, after read of any Stevenson’s book I’m thinking that he was so young.

Интеграл похож на саксофон (Integral is like on saxophone) by Seva Novgorodtsev.
Realities of the Soviet Union still accepting through socialist realism. The Soviet autobiography of famous for Russian-speaking auditorium BBC host Seva Novgorodtsev demonstrates actual picture. Unsuccessful to become actor, the author turned to sailor by will of his father, what didn’t change to his passion to music and play on saxophone, which communists were smearing. In orchestras and bands, where also in one meaningful folk music ensemble he was administrator for a couple of years, Novgorodtsev shows inside art life. He adds information facts about places and people on which describes. The book filled of many dirty stories, which evoked a disgust, but they are necessary for see life of the Soviets in 50-70s. The author is magnificent in sentence making in contrast to sometimes jumping narration as was much in beginning until stop on student years.

The book concludes on decision to emigrate. Every time all body organs moves out from balance in reading these scenes. It happens when I write strokes on this topic and just thinking. After closing of second half of hardcover, my one wish is read the unreleased continuation.

Моя жизнь, крушение и воскрешение СССР (My Life, Collapse and Resurrection of the USSR) by Stanislau Shushkevich.
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to have on bookshelf the book written by the man, who witnessed and participated in many pivotal events. He put signature on dissolution of the Soviet Union, nuclear disarmed Belarus and tried to move it on civilized route. Shushkevich has a talent of great writer, what makes me sad on short of his books. He describes that wanted to be a writer, but it didn’t happen. In autobiography of the Chairman of the Supreme Council and university professor not only about himself. Shushkevish writes his specialist thoughts and conclusion on Chernobyl tragedy. He demonstrates documents on independence proclamation of Soviet republics and more curious different requirements inside of the Russian part of the Soviets from stay as part of the empire with some conditions to full sovereignty. I have attraction to nineties years in Belarus in which I was, but live in this time isn’t mean know it as it had a place with me then. In one interview, Stanislau Shushkevich said a precise thought, if everybody united with Lech Walesa in Poland, when it didn’t happen in Belarus. In reading, I saw a lot very well known things. Strifes are happening everywhere. Every new deputy makes you more hostage, what was with Shushkevich in university. Normal people are being annihilated in this state as far-right nationalists under command of Zenon Poznyak, communists and called “young wolves”, which brought future dictator Lukashenko, rid from Shushkevich on second try. Before that he was framed in thievery of few construction materials for his country house. Then, what always and everywhere be in this country – everybody against all as I gave this thought in one my fiction story. I’ve got a new look on some people (unfortunately, no documentary I didn’t find on parliament sessions and glad that read in view of honest participator.), when a confirmation to others. In the book see, Belarus was impossible to safe in that time and the only legal presidential election demonstrates in first to four positions preferences from the most amoral person to the most civilized. Mostly on professor career, but also in politician, Shushkevich’s critique on some people becomes radical and I few times was disputing in thoughts with the author there.
The book filled of fantastic stories and excellent wide collection of photos. Obviously, Shushkevich has many great cases he had. I recall events in professor’s interviews, what he didn’t described in the book. I want more as, of course, on political kitchen of the nineties.

Paul John Peated poured in the glass.

A whisky recipe was bought by Japanese in Scotland and I once had a bottle of Nikka Blended. A good scent and clear following to recipe. Drinking gives a nothing effect. Then I said "They have a recipe, but have no soul". British presence in India brought railroad, sewerage and many other things as also is whisky. I discovered it in sushi-restaurant, where in menu saw three choice of Indian water of life. Higher of normal 40 degrees in not rounded numbers were for a tension call, but, of course, it were baseless thoughts and I couldn't deny to taste one of these drinks and ordered Imperial Blue. I've got excellence on every stage. Drink reminded from where it came. No hard in using. At least in this whisky saved skills despite Imperial Blue isn't example of whole Indian origin, because it was launched by Canadian conglomerate Seagram and belongs to French company Pernod Ricard now. Paul John is full Indian. I preferred to Peated, because from all shop presented brand bottles that's without sweet additions.

Paul John Peated has a paint smell, which reminded same effect from Johnnie Walker Island Green - that's and Glenfarclas 21 Year Old are only disappointed Scottish whisky if I right remember. Tasted Indian drink gives dotted little burns in a mouth from which don't wish to hold long for taste, what is not interesting due to high degree in 55,5%. After swallow comes satisfaction and continues in aftertaste, which expresses strong and another sip gave effect of moonshine, but it is not a hard drink. Comfortable for Indian conditions Paul John Peated achieves relaxation on 55,5%. Mix of nuts improves the wonderful feeling and in the next 50 grams I put a couple pieces of ice, what did greater for this whisky.

Franchises before franchises.

There were days when I was trying to watch first shared universes films. From multiple reasons to see a curiosity was in a historical learning. Through my memory and survived notes, I restore my impressions.

Calling now «Universal Monsters» launched with adaptation of famous horror novels: Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and original idea The Mummy (inspired on discovered tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.) in first half of 30s, where every main character had a dead end. Heading Universal Studios Carl Laemmle Jr. look on films from money position. Preview screenings of Frankenstein was a reason for correction of ending, where monster’s creator survives. In sequels appeared various relatives of titular monsters, what little bit later stopped for three years after firing of studio creator Carl Laemmle Sr. and his son Carl Laemmle Jr. or just “Junior”, who was a reason there, because he was spending a lot of money for films productions, which didn’t earn back and for that he gave it’s nickname. In 1941 was introduced a new character – The Wolf Man. Of course, Werewolf was before in Werewolf of London (1935), but a part of franchise became a character in performance of Lon Chaney Jr. Idea of crossover between personages appeared occasionally. Franchise writer Curt Ciodmak had a lunch with a producer George Wagner. The author of the Wolf Man made a joke about a title for the next film “Frankenstein Wolfs the Meat Man”. It wasn’t a jest for the producer. Ciodmak gave a job to write a screenplay calls “Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man”. After it appeared a couple more crossovers. Than in franchise came comedians Abbott and Costello, which were until the end of shared universe in the middle of 50s.
I didn’t watch adaptations of novels except The Invisible Man because didn’t read original books and I couldn’t watch crossovers, because as author, I don’t like when your story uses for own purposes. My choice limited in The Mummy (1932), The Invisible Man (1933) and The Wolf Man (1941). I like The Mummy due spirit of time, mystery ambience and without doubt acting of Boris Karloff. I have admiration to The Wolf Man for the excellent story, where I have compassionate to the main character. Everybody did the great in own part of telling: director, cinematographer, actors and I so much like a monster’s make-up. I fiercely negative to adaptation of The Invisible Man and define as «Blockbuster of 1933». Thats abuse on H.G. Wells’s book from which made an amusement movie, where the only liked original move was a derail of train. In the novel, the main character stopped in the hotel, because he was looking for a place for his science activity, when in the film, the wandering of the Invisible Man hadn’t a reason due a laboratory possibility before, where he could stay. Introduction of love line ruins a conception of the main personage Griffin. When I recall the book, I often imagine a reprisal scene. Makers of the film, I suppose, didnt risk to implement it and chose a losing variant by just one revolver shot.

Japanese became good in film (and then videogame.) franchise making and long time before surpassed Americans in producing of shared universes and in one and few films per year models. The first film of Godzilla series appeared in 1954 and still ongoing in the third reboot. On the moment, when I’ve tried to watch all of them, were twenty-eight films.
Godzilla (1954) is a great movie filmed in time of actuality of danger by a nuclear weapon, what is more meaningful for Japanese. Days of strikes of Nagasaki and Hiroshima weren’t far then. Atmosphere of unknown, standoff against of monster and line of scientist, who invented more devastated weapon. In continued flicks of «Showa era», what is a name for original series, I couldn’t watch further of the fourth Mothra vs Godzilla (1964). Degradation started from a sequel Godzilla Raids Again (1955), where is taken a commercial goal, what means a soulless and losing of screenplay commonsense. Tanks demonstrated useless against the monster in the first film, but Japanese militaries launch them again in the second and so on. A frozen Godzilla in the ice will left in this stance until the next part. Nobody have in plans to explore the monster. Battles between Godzilla and beast of the film, where their confrontation destroys Japan, despite on acceptable of scale models by modern eye, I was getting impression from a technical work and staging of these scenes. The most liked is a titular fight between of King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), which is first in color in these series. Nothing else more about good. The fourth film is crossover with a character, who had own solo film – Mothra (and the only in «Showa era».) from where also arrived another personages - two twin eight inch fairytales. That fantasy line is addition to the screenplay, which came to burial of savvy mind. I out from «Showa era».
In the first and the second reboots, which calls «Heisei era» and «Millennium era» and every of them begins as sequel of Godzilla (1954), what doesn’t mean, I can write about interesting of series is that watch of changing of Japan through years by look on building, transport, technologies and et cetera. New beginnings are same merciless in senseless about story writing. First movie of every era was the last. I was amused in The Return of Godzilla (1984), where on the conference presents leaders of the USA, the Soviet Union and Japan. First and second state’s heads argue between each other in hot. Prime minister of Japan demonstrates silent patience in debates. He opens a mouth later, where through a likeness of man of wisdom he brings a peace to sides and gives a solution in action on Godzilla. Clear narcissism. I’ve remember before my try to watch whole Godzilla, I saw a conclusion of Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002) in 2006. The final battle can describe – a Japanese film. Overdramatized beyond commonsense. Identical I saw in the story of Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999). Perhaps, that’s a special feature of «Millennium era».
Godzilla contains a huge quantity crossover lines, but watched films were enough for me.

Another successful Japanese series is Zatoichi, which released twenty-five films from 1962 to 1973, between 1974-1979 appeared TV series with hundred episodes in overall and ten years later the one more movie part with unchangeable Shintaro Katsu in performance of the lead character. The stories are spinning around of Zatoich – a blind, who presents himself as massager, but also hides inside an incredible talent of katana wielding. Watched first to fifth films were filmed between 1962 and 1963. There are no special effects in flicks and it is not necessary to spend with the same intensity as was done Godzilla, which was releasing a film per year. Zatoichi does mass bloodless slaughters without any explosions. A wandering hero over the years has gained a bad reputation. Either gets into showdown between local Yakuza clans or some group of people wanted to kill him because promised a good reward. Despite on politeness, he manages to piss off many people who show a desire to slay him. Wherever Zatoichi doesn't go, everyone wants his death, even though he hasn't touched them. Hordes of enemy with naked katana cannot cope with the main character, as they prefer to attack one at a time. I'm not picky about this stereotype – in action movies of the eighties it's also symbolic, but if film well, when in Zatoichi that’s striking even though the hero isn’t so invincible. Plots of all seen films aren’t so attractive and look stretched, as well as the fact that as his main rivals were: the showed up older brother, the man who taught him fencing and a samurai, who killed a woman, which appeared in the first and the second parts, where between her and Zatoichi had a place for love passion. That’s right, the main character quite often (for five films there were three times.) becomes the object of sighs and wasn’t indifferent himself, but marriage would have stopped his wanderings and so he explains that a man with such a bad past (he was a bandit.) can’t has this life. For curiosity, I continued to watch. The sixth film about Zatoichi I started to fast-forward at the end, the seventh and the eighth were watching selectively in scenes. More demonstration of far-fetch in plots; blood appears in some scenes; preposterious comedy moments are added mainly due of the main character, who can go pathos; a scene before the initial credits quite often becomes a demonstration of Zatoichi's abilities when he cuts a certain horde of his life accusers or demonstratively chops into pieces flies or candles. Sometimes there is diversity in battles and there are interesting discoveries from a cinematographer's point of view. It is an interesting idea, but not ideal, in a scene where Zatoichi cuts candles (although he cuts the candle itself, not at the fire.) and plunges the whole room into darkness, particularly putting enemies in own situation. However, everything is same. Everybody wants to kill him all the time wherever he goes. Totally accidental (which is quite common.) or by some foolish case, but Zatoichi has gotten to everyone for some reason. The protagonist always in everything gets by chance. He will accidentally run into a person asking for a massage, and Zatoichi will do to the person from whom hears an important conversation or inadvertently gets into any trouble, as again will wrongly accused. He is constantly lucky in dice, and each time due that, all either trying to deceive to take the money and then kill or immediately proceed to a second phase. For all watched movies, he’s made so much money that it is amazing that his mentions on humbles in money. From film to film, battles are constantly shown through the one frozen camera. Later, as I watched, Zatoichi will meet with the One-Armed Swordsman - the hero of the Chinese film trilogy and Yojimbo - the character of Akira Kurosawa's diology, which were played by same actors. I didn't continue watch in chronological order and move to the seventeenth film Zatoichi: Challenged (1967), whose choice (the third film of that year.) I made because it is a basis for the American adaptation about the blind warrior, which calls Blind Fury (1989), where the leading character played Rutger Hauer. In Zatoichi: Challenged, as always, everyone only gets to the blind masseur to do a personal favor, but usually it happens on deathbed. In the series, a remarkable detail is that the dying characters willn’t let a soul go (even the night will pass, as in this movie.) until tell to the main character a necessary information. In comparison with Blind Fury, any seen Ichi film loses, as also to the remake with Takeshi Kitano, which has a stunning direction, more beautifully filmed battles and philosophy presence, when it absents in original flicks. Rutger Hauer and Takeshi Kitano outperform Shintaro Katsu in acting, when the last doesn’t impresses despite on charisma. The plot difference between the Japanese and the American versions of the story is distinctive, but Blind Fury makes a smooth victory on main details. A moment where Hauer’s character Nick Parker explains to boy that his mother died and how demonstrated their further relationships are succeed in telling due perfect-written screenplay, acting performance and skillful directing of Phillip Noyce. I saw a developed affection between them and, sorry for plot revealing, in the scene of the parting I was also could to let go a tear. In Zatoichi: Challenged, as in every watched series film, events quickly jumps and about some things learn from characters' words. The death of boy's mother was said in this way and there was no such explanation as in Blind Fury. In the story if have to go - so let's go! Already in battles can see negligence. The sword passes over enemy's head and he is dead now. The final standoff, for sake of which snow began to fall from the sky, stirred the common absurdity of the plot, words and staging of the swordfight. I’ve finished watching Zatoichi with this movie, where I note that for Samurai movie, I would prefer Kozure Okami (Lone Wolf and Cub), which based on same name manga (1970-1976) and released six movies between 1972 and 1974 and left unfinished due appearance of TV series, what didn’t like main role performer Tomisaburo Wakayama. He put a stipulate that will continue acting if show disappear. It didn’t happen. These films remarkable in uninterrupted bloodshed (which see it to unlike Zatoichi!). Despite on constant sword using (and not just it, as well as various types of firearms!), films have interesting stories and enough space for Japanese worldview. Although the sixth movie exaggerated in massacres to absurdity and plot became weaker, but that’s one of my regrets about absence of next parts.

What is important I can write about franchise movies? Never joke to producer.
