Wild West was conquered and
myth of it gone in 1924, but not with tempers. I was looking for films, where
has that Old West. Contemporary westerns is thin genre and if give a cowboy hat,
a piece of grass between teeth and revolver – that’s willn’t make a film. Neo-Western
can make without these attributes. Original western or I mean Wild West answers
in words what is a real western. Life among wild places, where can meet dangers
in animals or more usually in people who can kill. There sounds guns more than “You’re
under arrest”. These characteristics define neo-westerns to which I don’t
relate movies about village life, country music and rodeo. Films as Death Wish
have genre’s elements, but that’s not western in total, because action occurs
in modern New-York. Searching found out not so much flicks.
Bad Day at Black Rock
Ambience of Wild West
occurs since arriving of WWII veteran John J. Macreedy in performance of Spencer
Tracy in outland town, which saved in time till buildings. Inhabitants shows
hostility to a stranger, whom they try to stop in his acts and goal, which
brought him. It’s easy to think that Black Rock came from past.
Mustang Country
Cowboy occupation didn’t
disappear with Old West. Far away from cities in forests of Montana a rancher,
whom played Joel McCrea, wants to catch a stubborn mustang. He will meet a
teenage Indian in his adventures, who will be a great support for him. That’s
relaxing friendly film demonstrates a lot of unique shots of living nature in
which director exaggerated.
Comes a Horseman
Everything for definition
of contemporary western, but it’s a simplistic story, where see known character
stereotypes and logically guess how film will go and end. A cowboy performed by
James Caan unites in partnership in cattle transporting with iron-forged woman in failed in full
implementation by Jane Fonda (not her role.). Against the backdrop of deaths of secondary characters between them
will rise expected romantic relationship, which made Fonda’s heroine’s
character expected soft. She will tell a tearful (expected by director – not
me.) story, which I willn’t write to you if you expect. A main villain in
performance of great James Robards wants to buy Fonda’s land due of oil. And he
is a bad guy, who will expected to kill secondary characters and, of course,
expected will slay his business partners. Robards, as expected, would like to finish
with main heroes by killing them, and he would succeeded, but weak screenplay saves
lead characters and they kill Robards and his henchmen with whole boredom in
directing, what I expected.
Swelter
I like this film despite on
flaws in a screenplay, which has necessity in corrections. A sheriff with memory
lost in deserted town, which a good place for keeping
secrets as can sure in words of a character by Tracey Walter. City’s life
interrupts by four gun-armed bandits, which has a common past with the main
personage.
Lone Wolf McQuade
Lone Wolf McQuade
demonstrates cruelty and merciless to everybody of Wild West of nowadays. Chuck Norris plays Texas Ranger J.J. McQuade,
whose gunman methods are solution against modern outlaws. As I wrote, a film
shows merciless, which will also use to a main hero, who will on edge to get a
suffering death. Wild West modernized in guns and knowledge of karate, which
uses McQuade and a criminal businessman Rawley Wilkes, whom played David
Carradine. Meeting of these two characters will start of enhancing of
confrontation. Music of Italian composer Francesco De Masi has reminds of Ennio
Morricone, what doesn’t deprives absolute individuality and achievement to
masterpiece. Tension sounds of church organ in moment of final death fight
between lead characters and other pieces are part of greatness of this
Neo-Western.
Deadlock
Directing of Roland Click
and soundtrack by band calls Can makes magnetic attraction in watching of this
discovered unknown masterpiece. Impaled of western essence Deadlock happens
among ruined houses by which I feel post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Few, but all
interesting, characters (charming Anthony Dawson plays a personage with a last
name I like.) have splendid dialogs and briefcase of money, which gives to
think on who deserves them. It was sad for me, that cash didn’t got a person I
wanted.
Call of Juarez: The Cartel
Westerns are rarely in
computer games and rarely fine and that’s only Call of Juarez series, which has
one game in contemporary setting. Excellent story in uniqueness of telling
where know and understand it in full can after completion for all three hard
personages, who fighting against modern outlaws – drugdealers, what is
foreground of behind things, which some of them relate to personages.
Personally, what I liked, that a visit of familiar mansion where hears in time
of killing a known sounds from previous parts, which played also here. The game
isn’t total comfortable due of programming mistakes, which need of fixing for
be a perfect.
Rambo: Last Blood
It was so long time ago
when I saw a clever film. Not everybody can understand an episode of throwing
away of painkillers or meaning of tunnels, specificity in traps, Jim Morrison,
where with knowing all films confirms ingeniously of the movie. Rambo: Last
Blood is a great continuation of Rambo films, which to this part turned out to
pure contemporary western. Justice in own hands, as usual, against ruthless
cartel, who makes business on illegal prostitution. A real artist is a man, who
can do his projects on topics for which can be criticized by masses at least. Rambo:
Last Blood is so it.
Extreme Prejudice
I have different
impressions on screenplays of films by Walter Hill, but I always like his
directing. His gives perfection in every shot and I with pleasant follow on
staging of episodes. Extreme Prejudice inhabits in ruthless tempers, which will
relocate in Mexico, a country, where Wild West stays in precisely. This story with
hyping plot lines has drug cartel, CIA and Texas Rangers was written by
talented John Milius (how I want to hear his name today!). His Extreme
Prejudice differs from time when project was launched in 1976 to release time
in 1987. The film has an interesting a common detail, which I was finding out
in Milius’s works Conan the Barbarian and Apocalypses Now. His leading villains
accept as god among his men. The flick has a fabulous acting staff and soundtrack
by Jerry Goldsmith, which I was in adoration was listening and didn’t roll
credits due of it. Sometimes I switch on that’s piece. Extreme Prejudice failed
in box-office and, as I’ve learnt, the film doesn’t appear on American TV.
That’s another unknown masterpiece for me.
Western can be in colonization
of planets and orbital stations. Sub-genre is thin as same as contemporary
western and I’ve found just one film follows to Space Western.
